What is Olympic Lifting?

Olympic Weightlifting is a sport in which the athlete takes the barbell from the ground to overhead using explosive power and skilled technique. In Olympic lifting (or you might hear us call it Oly!), there are two lifts: the Snatch, in which the barbell goes from the ground to overhead in one smooth motion, and the Clean and Jerk, in which the barbell goes from the ground to overhead in two distinct movements.

What happens in Oly class?

In Olympic Lifting, which is taught on Wednesday evenings at 5pm, our most experienced coaches spend an entire hour working with athletes on biomechanics, technique, and strength-building drills specific to the two Olympic lifts. It takes years to become proficient at these highly technical lifts, and attending Oly is a great way to supercharge your progress in them!
